Hello all,
At least some of you know that I am working on a how-to guide for beginner scrapbookers. I am also interested in publishing an electronic version on the web, for people to download. I'm looking for some feedback to find the best way to approach this. How many of you are interested in downloadable books? Please answer my poll!
Thanks!
Dear Scrappers,
Thanks for your replies to my poll so far! Just to clarify, the book would be downloadable, but would give detailed instructions on traditional, not digital, scrapbooking techniques. The purpose in making it electronic rather than hardcopy is two-fold. The first reason is that it allows me to include detailed how-to instructions with lots of color images while keeping the cost to the buyer low. The second reason is to save trees for their second most important purpose - making patterned paper!
Thanks again! _________________ Scrapaddie (a.k.a. Adrienne Larocque)

Hi Addie (hi Nenette) - I guess my answer would reveal much about my age - NO. Old folks love the feel of paper - touching it and running their fingers through it and reaching for it now and again to read through it WITHOUT hitting the power on button . I have tons of books. Never bought a digital one nor even sit down long enough for me to read even a free one. I guess its because being infront of the computer is "work" for me. (I believe the "younger" people would go for the digital books though.) Ive never even done any digital scrapbooking and I dont think I ever will. But throw me a printed book... anything... and Im sure to read it. Good luck in your book Addie!

| Hi addie - Downloadable books are great! I have actually downloaded a few. The problem i see you may encounter are people who pass on or share the e-books with others. |

Hi Addie,
I like looking at the on-line tips but have never bought an on-line book. I like the hard copy better. Its easier to refer to a hard copy.

| I voted NO. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to my books. Have never gotten into e-books. |

| I'm not old at all, and yet I don't like downloadable books. If it's a how-to book, it really helps if it were somthing I could leaf thru, or bring with me to a boring meeting or to the beach to read. |

I just voted "no"... I don't have anything against it... but it's not effective for me as of the moment.. maybe i'll change my mind if i have notebook... _________________ It is not about perfection... it is expressing oneself through a creative mind |

Hope this response is not too late. My vote is NO, because first of all, I don't like reading books using the computer. Also, it's not convenient, because you need to have the computer to read it. Besides, you can get tons of ideas from tons of scrapbook websites on the internet. With an actual book, you can just flip through it anytime you need or want to, and you can bring it anywhere. And you can use the book while you are actually scrapbooking. You don't want to scrapbook in front of a computer, right?
As for traditional scrapbooking vs. digital scrapbooking, I prefer the traditional one. You scrapbook to create memories, right? Nothing can beat the feel of holding the album, and touching all the embellishments and seeing all the inserts on your page. 10 or 20 years from now, when everything is high tech, and when you and your children and grandchildren see the pages you have made the traditional way, that is something. |

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my question! I continue to plug away at my book, although the move to Indonesia and my busy teaching schedule have slowed me down! I remain inspired though, if only because my friends in RP encourage me to do a tour there to promote the book when it is finished. I am always looking for excuses to go back to the Philippines! In the meantime, I will continue to stay in touch through My Little Attic and ScrappyBytes. And just to let you know how lucky you are to have MLA, there is absolutely NOWHERE to buy scrapping supplies in Jakarta!
